It is my great pleasure to heartily welcome you to the month of October, the beginning of the last quarter of the year. The faithfulness of God towards us in this church has never been in doubt. God has been taking us from one level of glory to the other, He is enlarging our coast on all fronts, His word is never scarce in our midst while His mercy truly endures forever over us. God has really blessed us with good things of life beyond measure and description. He has always been our pillar, our defender, our fortress, our shield, our sustainer, our protector, and our guidance. Yet this God continues to show his unending love towards us by declaring into our lives for this month of October as the month of DIVINE PROVISION. Our anchor scripture is Philippians 4:19, which says “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”. This is a reassuring statement that highlights God’s supernatural and extraordinary involvement in our lives. Divine provision is exhibiting to us God as the supernatural supplier. Further understanding of divine provision is that God is the source and origin of all our supplies as they go beyond the efforts of any human being. It is something operating outside the scope or power of human wisdom, training, skill, expertise or experience. In 2 Kings 7:2, the man on whose hand the king leaned relied on his knowledge of governance to cast doubt on the divine provision promised His people through the mouth of prophet Elisha.
The Bible says our lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 8:13). The power of old is demonstrable today and the experience of old can be relieved today. In essence, there are many instances of divine provision in the bible, and this can be repeated in our lives today to glorify God. The biblical incident of Elijah and the raven recorded in 1 Kings 17:1-7 is a classical example of divine provision. We cannot forget the experience of Hagar and her son Ismael in Genesis 21:15-19. She needed a cup of water but supernaturally God gave her a well of water. God can and will provide for you beyond your need in Jesus’ name. The experience of divine provision was also recorded for us in Exodus 17:3-7 when God brought water out of rock for His people. This is an indication that God has many sources through which He can divinely provide for you. Sometimes, some of these sources appear impossible but with God, nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37). Another biblical testimony of this can be found in Mathew 17:24 – 27 when money was sourced from the mouth of a fish for bill payment. In Exodus 16:11-15, divine provision of manna was supplied to the children of Isreal in the wilderness within the measure of need. This is God at work and can do the same in your life. In 2 Kings 4:8-11, we can recount the experience of divine provision by the Shunamite woman whose scarcity was turned to superabundance in less than 24 hours. The story of Abraham and his son Isaac in Gen 22:11-14 brought to us, in vivid terms, God as Jehovah Jireh.
From the above-mentioned biblical examples, we can see clearly why God’s promise of divine provision is true and real. What is expected of you is to trust God completely, hand over everything unto him, run away from sin, pray, praise Him, and be patient to wait for God’s timing. Whether you are trusting God for the fruit of the womb, a good career, academic excellence, genuine growth in your spiritual journey, a life partner, wealth, and good health, God can supply all your needs. One of His numerous names is El Shaddai, which means a double-breasted one with an inexhaustible reservoir of all good things that pertain to life and godliness. Once more happy new month and God bless you immeasurably in Jesus’ name.
