Abundant Life
by Paul Omoyefa
ABUNDANT LIFE (John 10:10)Welcome to the month of October, which God has declared unto us as the month of ABUNDANT LIFE. When we received unusual and exceeding help from God in September, it is not out of place for us to enjoy abundant life in this month of October and beyond. Our anchor scripture for this month is “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). The thief here is the devil and all his agents. The main objective of the devil is to make life unbearable and uncomfortable for you. He wants to steal what you have now and even steal your future to deprive you of meaningfulness of life existence. He wants to steal your peace, joy, hope, health and total well-being. He is also determined to kill your ambition, dreams, kill your joy and bury it completely. He never pretends in his desperation to destroy everything concerning you. He wants to destroy your reputation, your relationships, your career, family, your spiritual life and disconnect you completely from God. However, Jesus comes to work contrary to the devil’s threefold agenda of stealing, killing and destroying. This verse testifies to the fact that Jesus is the source of a good and authentic abundance. Also, it goes further to show that the real abundance is the abundance of life in Jesus Christ.
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly”
John 10:10
The three main features of abundant life in Christ are joy, peace and hope. So it is not the material possessions that give us real abundance but the joy of the lord that fills our hearts hence Philippians 4:4 enjoins us to rejoice in the Lord always. It is the misunderstanding of the meaning of abundant life that makes people, even believers to be seeking ephemeral possessions all over the places without caution and at all costs instead of at righteous costs. What such people fail to realise is that while the abundance of the world will give you worry, the abundance of the Lord will give you peace of mind that passes all human understanding. Furthermore, it is the abundance of Christ in you that will give you hope of glory. That is why I enjoin anyone who has not accepted Jesus Christ as his/her lord and personal saviour to do so immediately. Also, for those of us who are born again but lacking in the abundance of life in Christ, let us go back to our first love and re-dedicate our lives to Him. So sustaining our God-given abundance requires our genuine connection to both the source and the sustainer who is Jesus Christ as our Lord and saviour. The next level is connecting to His consecrated power that comes with great enablement. This manifests in our righteous and holy living sanctioned by God himself. The essence of every God-given abundance is using the same abundance to glorify God and it must draw us much closer to God. That is why God wants us to have sufficiency in all things mainly for His glory. My prayer is that all of us will connect to the sustaining power of God to enjoy His abundance to the fullest in Jesus name. You are blessed in Jesus name
